Iechyd Da - 04/12/08
The Salford Breweries series draws to an end with the 12th of the series - Iechyd Da (Welsh for the drinking toast Good Health).
At 4.6%, this beer name refers to Facers Brewery. The Bazens
and Dave Facers breweries shared premises and
plant in Salford for 2 years enabling both to
expand and develop.
Dave moved Facers
Brewery to Flint, Wales in 2005
where it continues to
prosper.

Salford Festival Ale is back! - 25/09/08
The Salford Food and Drink Festival returns from 4th-12th October. There are all kinds of mouth-watering events throughout the city with something to suit everyone. Find out more by clicking here.
We are honoured to have been asked to brew the Festival Ale again this year and have opted for a lighter version this time. It is 4.1%, pale in colour, hoppy and citrusy and should appeal to both beer and lager drinkers alike!
The ale will be available in bottles and in cask but we are only producing a limited amount so if you would like to order some, please get in touch as soon as possible.

08/08 - We had the pleasure this week of introducing some more Bazens to our beers - seven of Richard’s family travelled up North to watch some cricket! We think the beer had the thumbs up - as did the Sussex cricket team (at time of writing!). Watch this space ...! (It was a draw - the last day was rained off!)

2008 Salford Breweries Series
For our 2008 specials, we are using the theme of past Salford breweries.
OverTroubled - 11th of the Salford Breweries Series. Between 1998 & 2000, Bridgewater Ales Ltd
brewed at The Old Pint Pot & at 142 Chapel Street,
(where the earliest editions of the Dandy &
The Beano had been printed!)
Honeycombe - 10th of the Salford Breweries Series. Honeycombe Leisure installed a 5-barrel
brewery adjoining the Old Pint Pot off
Adelphi Street in 1996. The brewery was
closed in 2000 and exported. This beer is 4.3%.
Cuckoos Nest - 9th of the Salford Breweries Series. Whitbread bought the Cook Street Brewery
from Threlfalls in 1967. They brewed
Chesters bitter and mild until 1988
when brewing ceased completely.
Bitter Tirade - 8th of the Salford Breweries Series. Warrington-based brewer, Greenall Whitley, bought out Salfords own Groves and Whitnall in 1961 only to close it again in March 1971. Not content with this they ceased their own brewing operation in 1989!
Old Punch Ale - 7th of the Salford Breweries Series. In 1931, Walker & Homfray Ltd brewed an Old Punch Ale at Woodside Brewery to celebrate the bicentenary of the Salford Charter
WWW - The Watson, Woodhead & Wagstaffe Brewery was established in the 1890s, based on Irwell Street, Salford. The Company merged with Walker & Homfray Ltd in 1912.

Cook Street IPA - The Cook Street Brewery was occupied by Threlfall's from c1880 and later merged with Chester's of Ardwick.
Joule in the Crown - Salford-born James Joule, English physicist & brewer, became a manager of the Benjamin Joule Brewing Company (owned by his father) and took an active role until the sale of the business in 1854. (See Wikipedia.)
1868 - This marks the sale in 1868 of The Regent Road Brewery by Bathe and Newbold to Groves and Whitnall for £9000.
Bent Over Backwards - (Info to follow.)
After the Flood - This marks the flood of 1831 caused by a fermenting vessel at Mottram's Brewery exploding through the wall of the building and drenching the nearby streets in beer.

Black Pig Mild came second overall at the Richmond Ale Festival in North-West Yorkshire on 14th October.
Pacific wins Beer of the Festival at Battersea! - 11/08/07
We would like to thank the South West London CAMRA members and Battersea Festival organisers who came to visit our brewery on 28th July. We were presented with a wonderful certificate for winning Beer of the Festival with Pacific Bitter. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Doctor Who/Christopher Eccleston - 05/05/07
There have been various reports in newspapers and on websites about the naming of a beer we launched in February. According to these, we changed the name from Doctor’s Orders to Salford’s Star because of Christopher Eccleston objecting to the reference to Doctor Who. We would like to make it absolutely clear that this is not the case at all. We had no feedback negative or otherwise from anyone about the name. The only reason we changed it was that we couldn’t get into contact with the relevant people in time for the launch of the beer and, out of courtesy, took out the reference to Doctor Who just in case there were any objections.

The Salford Series, 2007 - 07/02/07
As Bazens is currently the only brewery in Salford, we are producing a series of twelve special beers this year to mark events and milestones in the Citys history.
Each of the series will be brewed using an identical malt grist. What will alter with each beer is the hop formulation. (The series will be evaluated and the best hop combination will be used in the new version of the Zebra Best Bitter to be released early in 2008.)
The beers will be 4.3% and brewed using classic brewing methods to produce a range of premium traditional-style bitters.
Information about each one will be posted on the main Beers page.

Bottle-conditioned Knoll Street Porter - 13/09/06
We are now bottling a small range of our beers including the
award-winning Knoll Street Porter. We commissioned Nicola L Robinson
- www.nlrobinson.co.uk - to design the label for the Porter
and she has created a stunning new look for the brand which is
dark and mysterious, perfectly in fitting with the beer! Click

New series of ’one-hop wonders‘ begins
with On Goldings Pond - 03/05/06
We have recently had our two new
8-barrel fermenting vessels delivered.
These, together with a new mash-mixing system which arrives in
the next couple of weeks, will enable us to increase production.
As a result, we can at last start brewing specials again.
Late April/early May sees the first of a series of 12 monthly specials (’one-hop
wonders‘!).
This is a single varietal seasonal hop series each linked by reference
to a classic film.
The first is called ’On Goldings Pond‘ featuring the English
Golding variety. All 12 of the beers will have the same 4.0% Maris
Otter malt grist so it should be easier to differentiate between the hop varieties. top

St Porter wins a Gold award! -
26/01/06
The Porter came up trumps again last Thursday when it was announced
that it had won Gold in the Stouts & Porter category of the Champion
Beer of Britain awards. The announcement was made at the Winter
Ales Festival in Manchester. We are delighted (and quite overwhelmed)
by the news. More news when it has all sunk in!
Knoll St Porter wins a Silver award! - 18/01/06
We attended (and very much enjoyed) the SIBA North annual bash
on Friday 13th January in Southport. We were very chuffed that
the Knoll St Porter (5.2%) won the Silver award in the Porter,
Strong Milds, Old Ales & Stouts category of the Northern Beer Competition. Click here to find out more about SIBA.
